Rafael “Riffy” Rivera

Lead Guitar

Born in Puerto Rico and raised on the streets of East New York, Brooklyn, Rafael “Riffy” Rivera discovered his passion for metal during a summer trip back to Puerto Rico at age 14. What began as a casual visit quickly became a musical awakening when his cousin Antonio introduced him to a world of sound he’d never experienced before — a steady diet of Iron Maiden, Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy Osbourne, and Led Zeppelin.

Returning home inspired, Riffy bought his first guitar — a Kramer Striker — and spent countless hours locked away, trading time with friends for time mastering his craft. Influenced by both rock legends and funk innovators like Prince, he began developing his own distinct tone — a fusion of precision, emotion, and groove.

Riffy cites Randy Rhoads and John Sykes as his greatest influences, shaping his technical edge and melodic sensibility. Over the years, he’s played with several bands, including Lion-Hearted (a brutal funk-rock trio where he honed his signature style), Arc’d Angel, Sixty Miles Down, and most recently, the thrash outfit Pierced.

Today, as the lead guitarist for Obsidian, Riffy brings all those years of experience and evolution to the next generation of New York rock — channeling the raw power, heart, and soul that define the band’s sound.

Rock on, Riffy.

Tommy A

Rhythm Guitar

Tommy is the driving force behind Obsidian’s tight, powerful guitar sound. Hailing from New York, Tommy discovered his passion for guitar at an early age, drawn to the energy and intensity of rock and metal. Over the years, he has honed a style that balances precision, groove, and raw power, giving the band a solid rhythmic foundation while complementing the lead guitar’s dynamic flair.

Known for his unwavering timing and ability to lock seamlessly with the rhythm section, Tommy brings both technical skill and heart to every performance. His dedication to craft extends beyond the stage, shaping the band’s arrangements and contributing to Obsidian’s signature sound.

As rhythm guitarist for Obsidian, Tommy ensures every riff hits with impact, holding down the pulse that allows the band to deliver high-energy, unforgettable performances.
